<image:title>Professional Development - The Child Abuse Prevention Program</image:title>
<image:caption>As a full-time Prevention Specialist at CAPP from 2008-2010, Liz led trainings for school staff and other professionals. These trainings covered topics of physical and sexual abuse, mandated reporting protocol, how to conduct a minimal facts interview, cyber-bullying and sex trafficking, Recently, CAPP joined with The New York Foundling and Liz was hired to help train new Prevention Specialists at this location. The job of a Prevention Specialist includes performing CAPP's award-winning puppet program about safe and unsafe touch for third and fourth grade students. Because prevention cannot be offered without intervention, Specialists are also trained to take disclosures from children who need to speak after the program. Specialists work closely with school Guidance Counselors to handle each disclosure in the appropriate manner.</image:caption>

<image:title>Professional Development - P Credit Course for NYC Educators</image:title>
<image:caption>'Activist New York! Staging the History of Social Activism' Designed and taught by Joanna Steinberg and Liz Parker Course Description: Activist New York! Staging the History of Social Activism in the Classroom explores the drama of social activism in New York City from the 17th century right up to the present. The course investigates the history of social movements in New York City through the lens of the Museum’s groundbreaking exhibition Activist New York, which uses artifacts, photographs, political cartoons and film footage to document centuries of agitation by ordinary New Yorkers who advocated and mobilized to secure their rights. The content and primary sources under investigation in this course are brought to life using theatre strategies designed for the classroom. Participants are actively involved in theatre creation. This integration of theatrical expression and curriculum content will support teachers as they work toward aligning curriculum and instructional priorities with Common Core State Standards by focusing on using informational texts and documents in creative and unique ways (i.e. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.4.1 & RI.4.3). The structure of the course will adhere to the Danielson rubric and will help teachers skillfully use resources to design assessments that monitor learning, and promote high-level discussions and active involvement from the students. Participant Reviews: "Awesome as a fresh new way to teach history and other content areas. I didn't realize how the use of theater activities could personalize a lesson and/or historical individual's experience." "It was a very energizing course! The theatre activities really added to my bag of tricks (which has been around for 12 years of teaching!)" "Second graders need to visualize complex historical perspectives and theatre offers an amazing strategy. The course paired historical content and theater in an engaging way and challenged students to think deeper on the topics." "Offer this course again so that other educators can be blessed and empowered." "I wish I had been taught history this way."</image:caption>

<image:caption>When Lucy's parents announce that the family needs to move, Lucy is devastated that she will no longer live near her best friend. Determined to use her love of Science to find a solution to this frightening change, Lucy turns to her magic lab coat. With her coat and a little imagination, Lucy travels into the earth where she talks to a frightened Magma in the moments before he explodes into a volcano. She journeys to the bottom of the sea where she discusses evolution with an anglerfish and, finally, out into space where she discovers that humans exist only because stars die. As Lucy peers into the vast unknown, she is forced to grapple with the necessity of change and the importance of Science even when it doesn't have all the answers.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In a distopian world where all is the same, twelve-year-old Jonas is selected to become the receiver of memories in his community. As Jonas goes through his training, the buried truth about the world that he was born into becomes hauntingly clear. This adaptation of Lois Lowry's classic young adult novel is a one-person performance accompanied by discussion with a YANY teaching artist. This production tours in NYC as well as nationally and in Canada. "What we saw today was one of the single most impressive acting performances I've ever witnessed, and I'm super grateful I was able to see it." - Cathy Harmon, Middle School Teacher "The production was incredible! The set was a stool and a sitting box, and the characters were all played by one woman. One woman! To say it was a masterpiece would be an understatement. Wow!!" - Brian Hartman, Middle School Teacher "Ms. Parker gave a riveting performance! Students and staff were in on-going conversation about the production since Monday." - Alison Bassell, High School Assistant Principal </image:caption>

<image:title>Performance - A Chance Shadow</image:title>
<image:caption>A Chance Shadow is a poetic play inspired by the Chinese poet Xu Zhimo (1897~1931) and the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (1898~1936). Xu was one of the first Chinese writers to successfully naturalize Western romantic forms into modern Chinese poetry and Lorca was a social activist who changed the world around him though his unique style of surrealism and theatricality. With their passion for literature, social reform and true love, they changed society. By using the elements of pop-up arts, Shadow Theater, Toy Theater and poetry, the show brings the audience into the poets’ romantic and historical worlds. This show has appeared at International Poppentheater Festival Dordrecht, Holland (2010), New York Voice 4 Vision Puppet Festival(2009, 2011), International Festival of Puppet Theater Jerusalem, Israel (2011), The BRIDGE Progressive Arts Initiative Charlottesville, VA (2011), Puppetry at the Carriage House, New York (2012), and Close To You Puppet Festival Taipei, Taiwan (2012), Dixon Place Puppet Blok, New York (2011, 2013) and the Sandglass Theater New Visions Series, Vermont (2014) For more information, please visit: http://www.doubleimagetheaterlab.com/</image:caption>

Lucas Morning is notified that he is scheduled for surgery in 24 hours. If he fails to comply, he will receive no further health care and will never have this option again. After a decade of depression, Lucas isn't sure who he will be without his disease. Given one night to grapple with this immense choice, he calls forth the creatures that have haunted him and kept him company throughout his adult life. Will he turn his back on these demons or will they convince him of his fate? Running time: 35min</image:caption>

<image:caption>Proposed PUBLIC SPACE The North East corner of East 106th Street and Second Avenue is a place of compelling contradiction – an oasis of trees and benches amid traffic and construction. Across the street, a Chase bank is being erected. In another direction, a 99cent store appears to crumble. This corner resides firmly in ‘El Barrio’, or Spanish Harlem. Though it is now a predominantly Latino/a community, the area has a tense and sometimes violent history of changing demographics. Once the place of an important Lenape campground, the area has also been home to German, Irish, Eastern European Jewish and Italian American communities. East Harlem’s 23rd Precinct had more stop-and-frisks in 2011 than any other precinct in Manhattan but crime has increased. Median household income here is one of the lowest in the five boroughs but it neighbors one of the city’s wealthiest areas. East Harlem is a ‘waterfront community’ that lacks easy access to riverfront green space and may be facing the loss of more recreation areas. Recently, NYCHA proposed leasing open land within East Harlem’s 24 housing projects to private luxury housing developers. Already luxury buildings are popping up in the area, producing record high rents. Corners are ideal places for dialogue and exchange. This particular corner sits at the intersection of tradition and gentrification, passion and politics. The space holds huge potential to amplify voices of an ever-evolving community and to unite residents in civic action as they face the powerful contradictions around them.</image:caption>
